Arguably, the most important component in the survival of gay teens is the supportive parent. Here, a mother writes a wonderful letter to her newly ‘out’ young son.
Any 13-year-old boy coming out as gay to his parents could only hope to have a mother as supportive as this one.
When Connor told his parents he was homosexual, his mom wrote him a note letting him know how much his parents loved him.
She wanted him to have “something tangible,” as a reminder that they were “proud we have the kind of relationship in which you felt comfortable coming out to me at 13.”
It went on, “I am hoping… you know you are loved, you are safe and that we will support you and fight for you.”
The note ended by referring to his bright future: “You are growing into such an amazing young man… we can’t wait to see where it takes you.”
